Macy's announced Monday that it is making Shopkick's Shopbeacon devices available at more stores throughout the U.S.
The expansion will have the mobile location-based technology put in a range of departments throughout stores for customers to use the Shopkick app, which helps users get good deals on clothes, according to PC Magazine. The move follows the department store chain's test run of the technology, which was held last year during the holiday season at its flagship stores in New York and San Francisco.
Macy's said the expansion will let Shopkick app users get "more personalized department-level deals, discounts, recommendations and rewards."
The expansion is the latest move in Macy's partnership with Shopkick, which began in November of 2013 and led to the launch of the first retail-based iBeacons. The devices let customers use the Shopkick app to access deals, discounts and recommendations, Mac Rumors reported.
The retailer looks to provide discounts tailored by specific departments in each store by early 2015.
Other capabilities of the technology include welcoming customers when they enter the store and reminding them to open the Shopkick app to find deals, PC Magazine reported. By "liking" an item in the app, customers can get notifications of when they are in a store that sells the product.
Macy's said over 4,000 iBeacon devices will be installed in its stores nationwide and expects to finish the installation early this fall. Customers with iOS or Android devices can download the Shopkick app now.
The move follows Macy's signing on offer support for Apple Pay on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, PC Magazine reported. The support will come with an iOS8 software upgrade next month, and will let users pay for products by holding their phones close to a payment reader while pressing their finger on the Touch ID button.
