"Marvel's Agent Carter" has cast James D'Arcy to play a butler. It's not a revolutionary casting choice for a British actor to play the male servant, but who he serves could play a considerable role for Hayley Atwell's Agent Carter.
D'Arcy will play Howard Stark's butler and ally to Agent Carter, according to Variety. The female agent will run secret missions for Stark, while also working for the covert Strategic Scientific Reserve (the forerunner to S.H.I.E.L.D.).
"Agent Carter" will take place in the aftermath of "Captain America: The First Avenger" and Atwell's character has found herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Carter must balance her administrative duties and secret missions while navigating life as a single woman in America after losing the love of her life, Steve Rogers.
Atwell has starred as Agent Carter in both "Captain America" features and the short film "Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter." She will also make a guest appearance during the "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season two premiere in a flashback scene with her "Captain America" co-stars Kenneth Choi (as Jim Morita) and Neal McDonough (as Dum Dum Dugan).
"Agent Carter" will premiere midseason when "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." goes on its winter hiatus. "S.H.I.E.L.D." premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 9 p.m. on ABC.
