ZTE Launches ZMAX Budget Phablet With LTE Exclusively On T-Mobile

Chinese phone maker ZTE is challenging the dominance of Apple and Samsung in the U.S. with a new entry. ZTE unveiled the all-new 5.7-inch ZMAX smartphone available exclusively on T-Mobile's network as an affordable alternate to pricey Apple iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

The smartphone features a 720p display with a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, Android 4.4.2 KitKat and 16GB built-in storage. Weighing at just 6.7 ounces, the ZMAX sports an 8-megapixel camera at the back and a 1.6-megapixel front-facing shooter. A large 3,400mAh battery will keep the smartphone powered up and LTE support brings the nation's fastest data connectivity in ZMAX.

ZTE has received an impressive response with its U.S. debut. The smartphone maker shared the fourth place in the U.S. smartphone market with a 6 percent share during the second quarter, according to research firm Canalys, PC World reports.

ZTE ZMAX is an addition to T-Mobile's Wi-Fi Unleashed program that was announced last week to bring free Wi-Fi calling and messaging to every handset on the carrier's network. The smartphone will be available for $252 off-contract or $10.50 a month for 24 months, starting Sept. 24.
