‘Falling Skies’ Season 5 Tragedy: Filming Halted After Freak Accident Kills Security Guard

Filming for Season 5 of TNT's "Falling Skies" has been temporarily halted after a freak accident killed a security guard on the show's Vancouver set. According to The Hollywood Reporter, an unidentified security guard was pinned between a tree and an unattended 5-ton truck.

Scott McCloy, a spokesman for WorkSafeBC, told THR that the incident happened Monday night (Sept. 15) in preparation for Tuesday's shoot. McCloy said the worker was hired to help secure the location and was standing near the truck when it suddenly began to roll backwards down a slope pinning the man against a tree.

He said that the tailgate of the truck was down because equipment was being unloaded.

"The truck rolled backwards down the slope and caught the deceased worker between the tailgate and a tree," McCloy told THR.

Local police and Royal Canadian Mounted Police are investigating the accident to see if there was anything mechanically wrong with the truck, Deadline reports.

"We are deeply saddened by this tragic event, and on behalf of the producers and TNT, we wish to express our heartfelt condolences to the family of the security guard," TNT said in a statement, according to Deadline.

"Falling Skies" recently wrapped its fourth season with a two-hour finale at the end of August with TNT ordering a 10-episode fifth and final season.
