Amazon is upping the ante on its product offering in the wake of growing competition from giants like Apple and Samsung. In a series of press releases Wednesday, the e-commerce giant announced new Kindle e-readers and Fire tablets. The new range of tablets covers both low-end and high-end pricing sectors, as the basic Kindle tablet starts at as low as $79 and highest model attracts a premium price tag of $379.
First off, the Fire HD Kids Edition features an attractive deal along with notable features. Amazon offers a two-year warranty on the device, and unlike other warranties, the retailer promises to replace the device no matter what at no charge - no questions asked.
In addition to the improved warranty, Fire HD for Kids also comes with Amazon FreeTime Unlimited for one year, which brings unlimited access to kid-friendly apps, books and videos, according to the company's press release. It sports a quad-core processor with HD display and a protective casing. The Fire tablet comes in two screen sizes, six and seven inches and costs $149 and $189, respectively.
Amazon further added two new Fire HD models that bring premium features like two cameras, upgraded quad-core processor, HD display, compact design, Dolby speakers and more, the retailer said. Available in two screen sizes, six and seven inches, Amazon sells the smaller version for $99 and the bigger model for $139. The new tablets are likely to attract the budget-conscious lot looking for a worthy tablet under $100.
Amazon has also covered the well-off shoppers with a high-end model, the all-new Fire HDX. Powered by a blazing fast 2.5GHz processor, the tablet is paired with a stunning display with 339ppi and Dynamic Light Control. Other features include Dolby Atmos speakers, which promise sound twice as loud as iPad Air and the overall weight is 20 percent lighter than its rival. The tablet also supports 4G LTE and up to 12 hours of reading, Wi-Fi web browsing and watching movies. It is powered by Amazon's latest Fire OS version Sangria, which brings a slew of new features to the tablet, according to Amazon.
The all-new Fire HDX 8.9" sells for $379 and will begin shipping in October. The 4G LTE model will cost $479 and can be pre-ordered directly from Amazon.
Amazon also introduced the cheapest Kindle upgraded to feature a touch display, faster processor, twice the storage, for $79. The announcement was made alongside the introduction of Kindle Voyage, described as the "most advanced e-reader." It sports the latest Paperwhite display with highest level of contrast, brightness and resolution than any other Kindle. Despite the advanced specs, the price of the new Kindle sells at $199.
