A Jack Russell that previously went missing took a cross-country trip from her Pennsylvania home to Oregon, where she was found five months later.
Gidget, the 7-year-old Jack Russell, was found on the side of the road in Tualatin, Oregon almost 3,000 miles from her home.
"She's never lived here; there is nothing that would bring her here," Deborah Wood, manager of Washington County Animal Services, tells The Associated Press. "So a human somehow brought her here, but we don't know who or how."
Wood believes Gidget crossed the country by hitching a ride with someone. Although a small dog her size could physically walk across the country, Wood is ruling that out because she is well-behaved, happy, and didn't lose a significant amount of weight, reports Oregon Live. Gidget currently weighs 14.4 pounds, only five pounds less than before she was lost.
Shelia Farrin, the shelter technician, contacted Gidget's owner after reading the microchip embedded in her skin.
The only issue now is getting the little traveler home, because her owner can't afford the airfare round trip to pick her up.
The shelter does not provide airfare, but they are looking for someone traveling in the owner's direction that can reunite the friends.
"It's kind of like a Walt Disney movie," Wood tells Oregon Live. "We're going to make sure it has a Walt Disney-like ending."
