Free agent Ray Allen is still expected to sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers when all is said and done. Allen appears to be waiting for training camp to end before making a decision, which will likely have him reteaming with LeBron James.
Despite Allen seemingly maintaining radio silence, most believe he will return for his 19th season. He's receiving interest from the Los Angeles Clippers, the Washington Wizards and the San Antonio Spurs, but Chuck Myron of Hoops Rumors still believes Allen will ultimately join James.
Per Myron:
"I Had the Spurs as the leader in this race for a while, but they're clearly preparing for him not to come. The Bulls make sense, though their deal with E'Twaun Moore is a signal that they don't think he'll go there, either, even though they left the door open a crack by only guaranteeing half of Moore's salary.
"I think Ray has reservations about playing for (Cavaliers first-year coach) David Blatt - he's spoken of a desire for a veteran coach, but Cleveland seems to make as much sense as anywhere. I think you'll end up there, Ray."
Cleveland is the frontrunner for Allen, given the championship-caliber roster and Allen's friendship with James. The Wizards are one possibility because of Paul Pierce, and the Clippers are another because of coach Doc Rivers.
Allen, though, appears to want to skip training camp. The veteran could also wait until further in the season to sign, which would help limit the wear-and-tear on his body and have him healthy for the postseason.
