A 23-year-old Czech woman gave birth to naturally conveived quintuplets, a first in the history of the Republic.
The miraculous birth of naturally conceived quintuplets has brought joy to not only the family but the whole country, as it is the first in the history of Czech Republic. The birth of the quintuplets took place "without any complications," said the doctors at Prague's Institute for the Care of Mother and Child. Alexandra Kinova gave birth to four boys and a girl by caesarean section, Sunday, June 2, 2013. The 23-year-old is from Milovice, a town located north east of Prague, and already has a son.
Kinova and her five babies are in the intensive care unit and the babies have 95 percent chance of growing up healthy, according to Zbynek Stranak, chief doctor at the neonatal section of the institute, says an Associated Press report.
The father of the children was present during the birth. The four boys are named Deniel, Michael, Alex and Martin and the girl is called Terezka.
Kinova was unaware of carrying five babies until the last month of her delivery. Earlier, the doctors said she was carrying twins, but later in March they confirmed four children. Finally in April, doctors learned that she was pregnant with quintuplets. She conceived naturally without using IVF, a process in which an egg is fertilized by sperm outside the body.
After learning that she was carrying quintuplets, Kinova was in shock, according to local Czech news site denik.cz. According to health experts, the chances of conceiving quintuplets naturally are one in several million.
Kinova hopes to breastfeed all the babies as she did for her eldest son for almost a year and half.
The doctors at the hospital said that the babies were under medication for better lung development.
