Pennsylvania Man Arrested After Calling 911 Because He Was Lonely

Sometimes when you're feeling lonely you would do anything to have someone to talk to, but you probably shouldn't resort to calling 911 for that.

Gregory L. Shaffer, a 52-year-old man from Pennsylvania, was arrested Thursday for making false reports to authorities, reports Trib Live News.

The man called the authorities three times on July 30, filing three separate false reports. He later admitted that he only called because he was lonely and wanted someone to talk to.

During Shaffer's first report he said he fell down the stairs and hurt his neck. He called again two hours later, admitting he was just lonely. On the third call of the night he asked if he could be brought to the emergency room, Trib Live News reports.

Officer Joseph Lewis released the following in an affidavit of probable cause about the case:

"When on the scene, (Lewis) asked Mr. Shaffer if he wanted to harm himself or others, and he informed me that he did not. ... He informed me that he did not want to talk to a doctor. He said he just wants someone to talk to because he is lonely. (Shaffer) informed me that he lied to 911 so the paramedics would show up."

Shaffer is currently at the Westmoreland County prison waiting for his preliminary hearing, which is scheduled for Tuesday.
