NFL Rumors: Jonathan Dwyer Head-Butted Wife For Refusing Sex

It's no surprise that the future of Jonathan Dwyer, the Arizona Cardinals running back who was recently arrested on aggravated assault charges, is in question, especially in light of the newest allegations that have come out in his case and the prevalence of other, more high-profile, domestic violence cases in which the NFL is already embroiled.

Things took a decidedly harsh turn yesterday, as it was revealed via a law enforcement report that Dwyer allegedly head-butted his wife and broke her nose after she refused to have sex with him. He then proceeded to punch her in the face the next day.

The incidents originally occurred on July 21 and 22, and Dwyer's wife fled the state afterward. She returned and sought the assistance of police after Dwyer sent her "suicidal text messages," which included a photograph of a knife.

According to police, the original encounter occurred because Dwyer attempted to kiss and undress his wife and she refused. The police were called, but did not make an arrest as Dwyer hid in the bathroom. His wife denied that he was home. Dwyer had apparently claimed he would kill himself with a knife if she told authorities about the assault.

The second altercation involved Dwyer punching his wife in the face and throwing a shoe at his 17-month-old son. The child was not injured.

As his wife attempted to call the police, Dwyer took her cellphone and threw it from the second story of their apartment.

Dwyer denied assaulting his wife during police questioning, but admitted to hiding in the bathroom and sending the suicidal messages.

He was booked on counts of aggravated assault causing a fracture and involving a minor, criminal damage, and preventing the use of a phone in an emergency.

Dwyer spent a night in jail, but was released on $25,000 bond.
