Marine Corps veterans Lance Cpl. Terry Sharpe and Allen Brown are walking 300 miles to Washington, D.C. to persuade President Barack Obama to free Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi, who is currently imprisoned in Mexico.
Tahmooressi has spent the last several months in jail, claiming he took a wrong turn when he crossed the border in a truck carrying firearms, according to The Washington Times.
While the Marine had legal ownership of the firearms, Mexico's gun laws deem his possession of them illegal.
Tahmooressi is scheduled to attend a hearing with the Mexican court system on Sept. 29th, Fox News reported.
Sharpe said in an interview with Greta Van Susteren on Wednesday that he and Brown are about 100 miles away from the White House and that they plan to finish their journey in a week, The Blaze reported. He added while on the road in Virginia that he was bringing a phone with him for Obama to make the call for Tahmooressi's release.
The veteran also said the President should tell Mexican officials to "Free Sgt. Tahmooressi."
"He shouldn't be there. He should be home. He served his country and he should come home," Sharpe said.
