With the change of the seasons comes a lot of different options for television, as some of the most renowned shows are returning, while others are making their debuts. Don't miss out on these must-watch series:
"Red Band Society," the American comedy-drama TV series, premiered on Sept. 17 and features award-winning actress Octavia Spencer as Nurse Jackson, best known for her role in "The Help."
The plot centers on a group of rebellious adolescents who experience their fair share of ups and downs while spending most of their time at the Los Angeles Ocean Park Hospital.
Twelve-year-old Charlie, the narrator who is in a coma, introduces viewers to his circle of friends including Jordi, Leo, Dash, Emma and Kara - all whom are battling their own diseases and demons.
Nurse Jackson (Spencer) is a caregiver with a stern demeanor, but secretly has a huge heart. Also tending to the young patients is Dr. Jack McAndrew and Nurse Brittany Dobler. These mentors are the guiding force for the teens, but in their own personal lives, things might not be so easy, the synopsis reveals.
"Red Band Society" airs on Wednesdays 9 p.m. EST/8 p.m. CST on Fox.
Debra Messing stars as Detective Laura Diamond in NBC's "The Mysteries of Laura," a series that follows Diamond's hectic life as an NYPD homicide detective and mother of two twin boys. Along with her demanding daily tasks, she and her soon-to-be ex-husband, played by Josh Lucas, can't seem to officially end their marriage - he won't sign the papers.
Her partner, Laz Alonso, serves as the perfect eye candy to distract her.
"Between cleaning up after her boys and cleaning up the streets, she'd be the first to admit she has her 'hot mess' moments in this hilariously authentic look at what it really means to be a 'working mom' today," the synopsis reads.
The series premiered on Sept. 17, but you can watch episode one here.
"The Mysteries of Laura" airs on Wednesday nights at 10/9c on NBC.
Are any of you "Walking Dead" fans? You'll love "Z Nation," a drama that throws viewers into post-zombie America. Basically, the show features gory scenes and tons of zombies.
The plot is similar to that of classic zombie storylines - a viral outbreak causes the world to be taken over by flesh-eating zombies. Though we know what to expect, for the most part, this destruction never gets old.
"Z Nation starts three years after the zombie virus has gutted the country, a team of everyday heroes must transport the only known survivor of the plague from New York to California, where the last functioning viral lab waits for his blood. Although the antibodies he carries are the world's last, best hope for a vaccine, he hides a dark secret that threatens them all," Ace Showbiz writes.
"Z Nation" premiered on Friday, Sept. 12 and will air for its 13-episode season on Fridays at 10/9c on Syfy.
The much-loved "Sons of Anarchy" has returned for its seventh and final season on FX.
The show features a close-knit outlaw motorcycle club, formed in the fictional town of Charming, California.
In season six, Jackson 'Jax' Teller, the protagonist played by Charlie Hunnam, has finally taken on the leader role of Sons of Anarchy after a long battle of questioning the group and himself. The season also closes with his mother, Gemma, committing an unpardonable sin. Unbeknownst to Jax, she brutally murders his wife, Dr. Tara Knowles, thinking she's protecting the club. Juice Ortiz kills Sheriff Eli Roosevelt to protect Gemma, The Variety reported.
"Season Seven begins ten days later with Jax in jail on a parole violation, grappling with the loss of the woman he loved. With the club's full support, he sets in motion the brutal machinations that will lead to complete and merciless retribution," according to FX.
"Sons of Anarchy" aired on Sept. 9, and will be shown on FX every Tuesday night at 10 p.m.
