There's a very cool fan film making its way around in the internet based on the Image Comics character Spawn. The character, who was created by Todd McFarlane in 1992, is a former assassin and CIA agent named Al Simmons. Simmons was murdered by his friend and partner, sending his soul to Hell for the innocent blood he had spilled in his role with CIA. Simmons then makes a deal with a demon (never a good idea...) who sends him back to his earthly life as a Hellspawn...a creature of unimaginable, but limited, power.
A movie version of Spawn was made in 1997 starring Michael Jai White, John Leguizamo, and Martin Sheen which, truth be told, was kind of crap. But, there was also an excellent HBO animated series based on Spawn which ran from 1997 to 1999, and this film certainly channels that series' unsettling vibe.
This new fan film is titled "Spawn: The Recall," it was created by Michael Paris, and it runs about seven minutes in length. A synopsis, and the short film itself, are below. Thanks to the good folks at io9 for the tip.
SPAWN : THE RECALL is the story of a former witch and her son, who try to live a normal life away from the darkness.
While they're shopping in a supermarket, the child suddenly disappears.
She starts looking for him, freaked out knowing evil forces are still lurking.
A security guard comes to her help but while they are checking on the surveillance cameras, something happens.
She can sense it, they are here...
