Angelina Jolie made her first public appearance since she revealed she had surgery. Since her announcement, the actress has kept a low profile but was recently spotted at the London premiere of Brad Pitt's film "World War Z," US Weekly reports.
"I feel wonderful!" Jolie told US Weekly. Not trying to take all the spotlight from her husband, Jolie added"it's Brad's night."
Pitt who is said to have been extremely supportive of Jolie during her recovery told the magazine it was incredible to be in London.
In May, Jolie wrote an editorial for the New York Times, revealing to the world that she had underwent a preventive double mastectomy to lower her chances of getting cancer. In the editorial, titled "My Medical Choice," the 37-year-old mother of six wrote how doctors discovered she carried the gene BRCA1 after her mother died from cancer.
"My doctors estimated that I had an 87% risk of breast cancer and a 50% risk of ovarian cancer, although the risk is different in the case of each woman," Jolie wrote. "Once I knew that this was my reality, I decided to be proactive and to minimize the risk as much I could. I made a decision to have a preventive double mastectomy. I started with the breasts, as my risk of breast cancer is higher than my risk of ovarian cancer, and the surgery is more complex."
Since the surgery, Jolie said her chance of getting cancer has dropped to 5 percent. Following the procedure the actress had breast reconstructive surgery using implants.
"I do not feel any less of a woman," she wrote. "I feel empowered that I made a strong choice that in no way diminishes my femininity."
Jolie said she wrote the editorial so other women could be informed and know about their options. Since writing the letter, Jolie's aunt also died from the disease.
