All across the country, football is in the air. Literally. Millions of fans are watching football - pro games, college, high school and all forms of pee wee football. Since country music is about what is going on in our real lives, it's natural that country songwriters write about football and that country stars sing about football. In fact, country stars, from Kenny Chesney to Carrie Underwood, are also big fans of the sport.
Sarah Wyland at Great American Country listened to a stadium full of football songs performed by country artists and came up with this Top 5 list:
Kenny Chesney - "The Boys of Fall"
Kenny Chesney is a huge football fan and counts the likes of quarterback Peyton Manning and New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton among his close friends. He has co-produced several football documentaries, including "The Boys of Fall," "The Color Orange: The Condredge Holloway Story" and, most recently, "The Believer," a documentary about long-time college coach Steve Spurrier. Chesney's hit "The Boys of Fall" is a poignant look at football and what it means to small towns across the country.
Brad Paisley - "Country Nation"
In the lyrics of "Country Nation," from his new album, "Moonshine in the Trunk," Brad Paisley pays tribute to a number of things that makes America a "country nation," including football. He name-drops several college teams, from his beloved West Virginia Mountaineers to the Tennessee Volunteers, Michigan Wolverines and many more.
Hank Williams Jr. - "All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight"
For years, Hank Williams Jr.'s "All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight" was a Monday Night Football staple, getting fans fired up for prime-time football. The song was edited to fit the broadcast, with Williams singing "Are you ready for some football?"
Carrie Underwood - "Waiting All Day For Sunday Night"
Following in the footsteps of Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood welcomes fans to NBC's "Sunday Night Football" programming. This year's opening segment premiered Sept. 7 before the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos kickoff and featured Underwood alongside NFL stars DeMarcus Ware, Phillip Rivers, Brandon Marshall, Clay Matthews, Jimmy Graham and LeSean McCoy.
Lee Brice - "Parking Lot Party"
While Lee Brice's song doesn't mention football by name, it's the perfect tailgating song. And what football fan doesn't enjoy a good tailgate in the parking lot before or after the big game?
