An article over at IGN posits seven actresses who could/should play Kara Zor-El on the recently announced "Supergirl" CBS series. It's a decent list that mentions some beautiful and talented young ladies (especially Laura Vandervoort), but I feel that list is a bit too short-sighted. Why not think bigger? Why not gun for some real names?
That's exactly what I would do if I was running the show...and here are the seven ladies I would attempt to cast as my Supergirl.
Chloe Grace Moretz
Yeah, she's only 17 (cue the 80s, Winger song here), but have you seen her as Hit Girl in the "Kick Ass" movies? Chloe is gorgeous, gifted and strong. What more could you ask for from your Supergirl?
Dakota Fanning
Dakota is probably the best pure actress on this list. She may be a bit too "waif-like" to play a super-heroine, but she would bring a wide-eyed wonder and vulnerability to the role that would certainly be engaging.
Natalie Dormer
The resplendent Ms. Dormer is a bit older (32), and a Brit (who to my knowledge hasn't played an American), so who knows what her accent would be like. But her sly grin and inner-strength (check her out as Anne Boleyn in the "Tudors" if you don't believe me) would, in my opinion, make for an excellent Supergirl.
Kate Bosworth
Kate is a bit older as well (31), and yes, she already played a character in the "Superman" mythos (Lois Lane in 2006's "Superman Returns"), but everyone has pretty much forgotten that flick ever existed. She's not anywhere near as good an actress as Dakota Fanning, but she brings similar qualities to the table, overall.
Kaley Cuoco
She's already CBS's "it girl" so you cannot tell me she wouldn't be in the conversation for this role. While Kaley is certainly attractive, she also looks like she can kick some butt. To top it all off, the fanboys of the world would go berserk if she were cast.
Jannette McCurdy
Jannette is kind of a dark-horse here, granted, but I always enjoyed her antics as Sam Puckett on "iCarly." She's a bit on the short side (5'2"), but she would definitely bring a different kind of spark to this role, along with an overall sense of humor that the other ladies lack.
Helen Slater
Because she was the original...and because why the heck not??
