A skeleton of a woolly mammoth, almost completely intact with tusks, is for sale in a rare auction, The Daily Mail reported on Tuesday.
The mammoth, which stands at 11.4 feet and is 18 feet long, is expected to attract bidders from private collectors and museums alike.
Rupert van Der Werff, director of Summers Place Auctions that is selling the mammoth, says the Ice Age remains could go for up to $409,000.
"All sorts of people are collectors. The most famous ones are John Travolta and Leonardo DiCaprio. It's something to really show off about," van Der Werff told Sky News.
The skeleton was part of an old Eastern European collection, and was sold to a private collector in England, but its size prevented the remains from being mounted.
Last year, a diplodocus skeleton sold at an auction for more than £400,000. The mystery buyer has now been identified as Copenhagen's Natural History Museum. It is expected to be unveiled next week.
London's Natural History Museum did not place a bid for the creature and admitted that it will not try to buy the mammoth either.
Van Der Werff said it was not easy trying to pin a price tag to the prehistoric beast: "We don't think one has been sold at a British auction before."
"We've sold a number of pairs of mammoth tusks, so we've based our evaluation on that and came to an estimate of around £150,000 to £200,000. But we hope to be proved wrong and it sells for a lot more," he told The Daily Mail.
The auction will take place on November 26.
