‘Modern Family’ Star Sarah Hyland Claims Ex Matt Prokop ‘Choked’ Her, Seeks Restraining Order?

"Modern Family" star Sarah Hyland took out a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend, alleging he verbally and physically abused her during the last four years of their relationship. According to TMZ, Hyland wrote in court documents that Matthew Prokop choked her during a recent argument and threatened her life.

The 23-year-old actress, who plays Haley Dunphy on the ABC show, claims that Prokop, 24, pinned her against a car during an argument over the outfit she was wearing. Hyland alleges that Prokop repeatedly called her a c**t and choked her.

"His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak. I was scared and in fear for my life," Hyland said in court documents, according to TMZ.

The actress said she suffered injuries to her voice and wrote in the documents that she had a "very sore throat following this event." Hyland said that she was aware her relationship with Prokop was abusive so she asked her TV mom, actress Julie Bowen, to help her "peacefully end the relationship."

Allegedly, the breakup did not go smoothly, and Prokop charged outside to the backyard and "began screaming." Hyland says that her ex threw a lighter at her and Bowen ordered her to leave the house, fearing it was unsafe.

According to TMZ, she also said in the documents that Prokop threatened to set one of her homes on fire and injure her dog. Following the breakup, Hyland said he sent her "threatening and emotionally disturbing texts and voice mails" and supposedly threatened to kill himself.

Prokop, who has not responded to the allegations, checked into rehab back in August but was released on Sept. 21. Hyland claims that the director of the rehab center called her and warned her that Prokop's mental state was dangerous and she should take out a restraining order against him.

According to TMZ, the restraining order requires Prokop to stay at least 100 yards away from Hyland and her dog.
