Texas Mother Of Three Breaks Car Window To Rescue Child (WATCH)

A woman who noticed a baby in a hot car in a parking lot in San Antonio used a tire iron to smash the windshield and rescue the child, according to USA Today.

Angela Radtke said she knew she had to get the baby out of the locked car in a grocery store parking lot even though security personnel told her to wait for police to arrive on the scene, USA Today reported.

Police say surveillance video shows the baby was in the car nearly 40 minutes, and Radtke said the boy looked red and sweaty, according to USA Today.

"He was running a temperature, so he was really hot. The baby was red and looked uncomfortable," Radtke said, the newspaper reported.

The 9-month-old was treated for dehydration and taken to Children's Methodist Hospital, according to USA Today.

Police arrested the father on a child-endangerment charge when he emerged from the market after he and his 12-year-old daughter shopped for groceries, USA Today reported. The boy was placed in the care of child protective services while the case was being investigated.

Radtke, a mother of three, says that as a retired Army captain, she's been trained to assess a situation and act, according to USA Today.

Radtke was questioned by police who arrived at the scene, but released a short while later, USA Today reported. The report cited Texas' "Good Samaritan" laws, which protect people who help others in emergency situations.

"I felt like it was worth the risk," Radtke said, according to USA Today.
