India became the first country to make it to Mars on its first attempt this morning. The country's Mars Orbiter Mission also made it to the Red Planet for a much lower cost than any other country traveling to the planet.
India's mission only cost $74 million dollars. Earlier this week, NASA's MAVEN spacecraft also made it to Mars, but it spent $671 million on the craft.
MAVEN is just one of many things in the world more expensive than India's mission to Mars. Here's a list of five things more expensive than India's outer space mission:
The 2013 movie 'Gravity'
The movie had a budget of $100 million and it brought in $675 million at the global box office. Sandra Bullock's salary alone was almost the price of the entire mission. She brought home $70 million for her leading role in the sci-fi movie.
One milligram of antimatter
Antimatter is matter with the charge reversed (for example, an electron with a positive charge), which scientists believe could be used for medical purposes. The catch? Just one milligram of it costs about $100 billion.
Several celebrity endorsements
Celebrities get paid a ton of money to endorse products in advertisements. 50 Cent made $80 million when he signed a deal with Reebok endorsing its G-Unit sneakers. Nike gave LeBron James $90 million to promote its brand, and the shoe giant paid Tiger Woods $100 million.
India could have performed its space mission twice and still spend less money than Adidas did when it hired David Beckham to endorse its brand for about $160 million.
These soccer trades
Real Madrid bought James Rodriguez from Monaco for $105 million. However, Real Madrid got some of its money back when Manchester United bought Angel Di Maria from them for $98.6 million. Also this season, Luis Suarez was traded from Liverpool to Barcelona for $115 million.
Picasso's 'Garcon à la pipe' Painting
This Pablo Picasso painting was auctioned at Sotheby's in New York in 2004. The lucky buyer got this work of art for $104.2 million. The painting created by the famous painter in 1905 was the most expensive Picasso painting ever sold.
