In one 48-hour period, five percent of New York City's total shootings for the year have occurred across every borough in the city with the exception of Staten Island.
The sudden outbreak of gun violence has left 25 people shot, 12 in Brooklyn, eight in the Bronx, four in Queens and one in Manhattan according to the New York Daily News. Of the 25 shootings, six people are dead
The incidents occurred throughout the city this weekend, according to CBS, beginning on Friday when an 11-year-old girl in Brooklyn, Tayloni Mazyck was hit by a stray bullet. Her wound has left her paralyzed.
On Saturday, 15-year-old Sarah Rivera was shot in the leg when a shooting broke out in the Bronx. The bullet reportedly hit her while she was pushing a baby stroller out of the area where shots were being fired.
Twenty-four-year old Terrance Davis was shot and killed in the Bronx Friday night as well.
Saturday, 23-year-old Antonie Wilson was shot and killed. In that same area a 39-year-old man, Damion Riley, was shot twice and killed.
In Crown Heights on Sunday, 25-year-old Damien Powell was shot in the torso and killed.
The worst of the offenses seems to have occurred on Sunday when a man opened fire in Prospect Lefferts Gardens. He hit three people. Police are looking for 30-year-old Kevon Brown who is wanted for the shootings. Eyewitnesses report seeing Brown open fire at police when they arrived at the scene however, no officers were harmed. CBS reports that a person of interest is in custody on Monday, however it isn't clear whether or not that person is Brown.
Despite the tragically high surge in gun violence over the weekend, the city's total shootings for the year is at about 440. That number is still down 23 percent from this time last year where the total was 574.
