NFL: Arizona Man wins $57K on $5 Bet

Money won is much sweeter than money earned.

ESPN reports that a sports bettor from Kingman, Ariz., who asked to be identified only as Rex, won $57,935 on a $5 bet following the Chicago Bears 27-19 victory over the New York Jets Monday night. The bet was part of a 15-team parlay wager.

Only two bettors out of 3,986 entries this week in the William Hill Pro Progressive Football Parlay Card correctly picked the winners (with no spread) of all 14 Sunday games. Rex chose the Bears to win while the other bettor was relying on the Jets.

According to William Hill spokesperson Michael Grodsky, the progressive jackpot is won only once or twice a season. Last year, the jackpot swelled to a record $109,290 before a man from Reno, Nev., won in week 11. Grodsky said that this was the first week that two potential winners were on opposing sides in the deciding Monday night game.
