'Teen Titans' Might Mix It Up With 'Arrow' and 'Flash," Execs Suggest

According to a quote at Adweek, and an ensuing article at We Got This Covered, it appears that the newly announced "Teen Titans" series on TNT could possibly cross over with the CW's "Arrow" and "Flash" series at some point down the line. Both TNT and the CW are owned by Warner Bros., so this concept isn't as far-fetched as it sounds at first blush.

The quote, which comes from CW President, Mark Pedowitz, is as follows: "What you'll see embedded in 'Flash' and 'Arrow' is that we'll have the ability to test characters out. Is there room to grow them into the next show? I cannot tell you yet. There are discussions going on."

While I think a crossover like this would/could be very cool in theory, I'm not sure how it would work in practice. Both the stars of "Arrow" and "Flash" (Stephen Amell and Grant Gustin, respectively) seem rather young to me (especially Gustin), almost as if they should be playing the younger, sidekick characters (Speedy and Kid Flash) that the original, DC Comics "Teen Titans" series was made up of. In the "Arrow" series as it stands now, Roy Harper has already been introduced as Arsenal, not Speedy, and doesn't appear to be all that "junior" to Amell's Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, so that he would be relegated to "Teen Titan" status. Moreover, Amell/Queen has referred to his sister, Thea (played by Willa Holland), as Speedy since the pilot episode.

Unless they plan on casting "real" teenagers (say 14 to 16-years-old) who look and act like comic book sidekicks should for this new "Teen Titans" show, I'm not sure how a crossover with the existing series and characters would work, ultimately. Another consideration here is that the "Teen Titans" have had great success in the animated realms with light-hearted, humorous, kid-friendly fare. Will this new TNT show be more of that, or will it be gritty and realistic as 'Arrow' and "Flash" are? One would think that the shows would have to have similar dramatic "tones" for a successful crossover to happen. All in all, it seems like TNT and the CW would have a lot of "filling in the cracks" ahead of them to make a crossover like this work.

Stay tuned for more news as it develops.
