Apple is reportedly on the verge of releasing a new Mac mini next month along with new iPad models and OS X Yosemite.
Reports indicate Apple's plans to update its almost-dormant Mac lineup with a new Mac mini. It has been more than two years since the company released a new version of its Mac mini. The launch is expected next month at a rumored event where the company is expected to make other product announcements too.
MacRumors cited sources familiar with the matter about the release of the next Mac mini but details on the specs remain scanty. According to the report, the timing of the release is odd considering there are no new processors coming in to the market soon. Intel's Broadwell processor is not expected to arrive until early next year and the existing Haswell processor seems a bit outdated for the new product.
Previous reports have indicated that the Cupertino tech giant is also planning to release new iPads alongside OS X Yosemite and an all-new iMac with 5K display. Considering this, a new Mac mini fits right in with support for higher resolution displays, TechnoBuffalo reports.
Apple's last update to Mac mini was in October 2012, when the company packed Intel's Core i5 and i7 processors in the small desktop. Prior to that, Apple updated its Mac mini line in July 2011.
Rumors and leaks regarding the Mac mini have also been scarce, as the last one appeared in July with the mention of Mac mini (mid 2014) on an Apple support page.
If the Mac mini release is imminent next month, then it is likely Apple will send out invites for the event soon. MacRumors suggests the new desktop computer will pack refreshed Haswell processors released earlier this year or the same processor as the MacBook Pro in late July.
