Sony's mobile division has sent out invitations for its event to be held in New York City on Oct. 9. The tagline for the event is "Demand Great."
Several devices are rumored to make an appearance at the event, such as Xperia Z3, a smartphone introduced by the Japanese consumer electronics giant at the International Franchise Association trade show held in early September, according to CNET.
The Xperia Z3 has already received attention on social media, with Sony promoting the model on Twitter using the #DemandGreat hashtag, NDTV Gadgets reported.
Some Sony fans believe the company will unveil a new device, while others believe that additional Xperia Z3 models will be introduced at the event, such as the Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.
The event may serve as a chance for Sony to improve its smartphone business, CNET reported. The section is playing a role in the $2.1 billion loss the company said it will experience in the fiscal year ending in March of next year.
Sony is also expected to talk about prices and the locations for the smartphone's availability.
Telecommunication companies are already getting involved with the Xperia Z3, and T-Mobile confirmed that it will begin selling the phone. Sprint may also sell the device, according to NDTV Gadgets.
The announcement of the event follows one day after Sony made the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact available in India. Features of the smartphones include 4G LTE support, IP65/68 certification to make them waterproof and dust proof, and PS4 Remote Play to let users stream PS4 games on their phones.
Customers will have to wait until November to get PS4 Remote Play.
