'Supergirl': Five Actors Who Should Play Villains in the Upcoming CBS Series

Ever since it was announced that Supergirl is going to have her very own TV show on CBS, she's become something of a hot commodity. A few days ago, I wrote a list of the women I thought should play Kara Zor-El, so now here's a list of the top five "Supergirl" villains, and my recommendations on who should play them.

Unfortunately, Supergirl doesn't have any real iconic villains like her cousin, Superman. In fact, most of Kara's villains fall into the "lame duck" category. These are of interest at least, but I think it's going to be up to the writers of the show to create some new and interesting nemeses for Kara.

Insect Queen: The Insect Queen was born and raised among the All-Hive, a race of insectoid aliens. She gathered some followers around her, and in order to prevent her from usurping the throne from the current Queen, she and her followers were sent to Earth to start a new colony. She had taken over the body of Lana Lang, Clark Kent's high school girlfriend.

You need beauty and grace to play a queen...even an evil, alien insect one. Emmy Rossum exudes both of those qualities in spades, and she would enjoy playing an evil character, I think.

Lucy Lane/Superwoman: Sister of Lois Lane. Daughter of Sam and Ella. Sister-in-law of Clark Kent. Once the wife of Ron Troupe and girlfriend of Jimmy Olsen. Lucy has a long and convoluted history in the comics. To boil it down, she's something of a "wannabe" and a bad egg after being around Kyrptonians for so long, so she developed a powersuit which altered her DNA to that of a Kryptonian. She murdered a couple people and Supergirl brought her down.

Shailene Woodley has been in many things as of late, but there's a reason for that: she's damn good. If she would dye her hair blonde for this role (not that that's necessary, really) she'd be perfect as Lois' bratty little sister who grows up to be mean.

Nasthalthia "Nasty"Luthor: Lex Luthor's niece is a criminal mastermind in her own right. She enrolls in Stanhope University to stalk Linda Danvers and expose her as "Supergirl." "Nasty'' is the daughter of Lex's older un-named sister, not his younger sister, Lena Thorul-Colby. The older sister, like Lex, was disowned by Jules (Lionel) and Arlene Luthor as a teenager.

Now that she's all grown up, I think Selena Gomez would enjoy a turn as Lex's terribly goth niece. It would be interesting to see her play an evil character, as well. Take that, Disney!

Reign: Reign is a Worldkiller created by a group of Kryptonian scientists. She and her fellow Worldkillers became enemies of Supergirl when they attempted to conquer Earth.

You need a large and powerful-looking female to play the alien, Reign, and with a little SFX make-up wizardry, I think "Game of Thrones'" Gwendoline Christie would be perfect in this role.

Simon Tycho: Simon Tycho is a 28-year-old trillionaire who lives on a space station and rarely ever sets foot on Earth. When Supergirl landed on Earth, he captured her and held her on his space station, hoping to contract some of her Kryptonian blood. An explosion during Supergirl's escape left most of his body destroyed...yet his assistant, Miss Thorn, was able to place him inside the body of "The Brain," an organism of basic nerves and a brain, to keep him alive. Now, he kinda hates Supergirl and blames her for what he has become.

I like "Breaking Bad's" Aaron Paul for this part. I think he would bring just the right amount of megalomania to the role to make it work in the context of a TV show.
