The FBI and police detectives are wary of the extra security features on Apple's new iOS 8 software that will give them lass access to the data on suspects smartphones even when police have a valid serch warrant.
Because of this, John J. Escalante, the chief detective at Chichago's police department, is saying the iPhone will be favorable among criminals and pedophiles.
"Apple will become the phone of choice for the pedophile," Escalante tells Washington Post. "The average pedophile at this point is probably thinking, I've got to get an Apple phone."
Detectives often use smartphones to get incriminating evidence from suspects in criminal, murder, and phedophile cases. More often than not, criminals take selfies with their accomplices, and even the loot they stole.
Besides these selfies, smartphones are also helpful to detectives because instant messages, call logs and location records can give them a general idea of where the suspect is.
With the terms of the new iOS 8 software police and detectives will no longer be able to have Apple unlock iPhones or iPads to be searched, WP reports.
While police have the means to find a criminal without technology like they did in the past, sometimes its just not enough.
"There will come a day when it will matter a great deal to the lives of people ... that we will be able to gain access" to such devices, FBI Director James Comey tells reporters in a briefing. "I want to have that conversation [with companies responsible] before that day comes."
In the future, Google also is planning on adopting a security feature to keep police out of Android phones, reports WP.
