Arkansas police have taken into custody a suspect in the disappearance of a real estate agent, who was last seen Thursday evening after she went to show a house in Scott, THV11 reported.
Aaron Lewis has been charged with kidnapping in relation to the disappearance of Beverly Carter of North Little Rock, according to the warrant issued Sunday afternoon by the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office.
Lewis, of Jacksonville, Ark., was arrested Monday morning in Little Rock. It is not clear how investigators connected the 33-year-old Lewis to Carter. She was reported missing by her husband last Thursday after she went to show a house to an unknown client in Scott at around 5:30 p.m.
Before reporting his wife missing, Carl Carter went to the house his wife was showing and found her car with her personal effects inside. Police found no signs of a crime, THV 11 reported.
Carl Carter received a series of texts from his wife's phone early Friday morning, but said it did not look like they came from Beverly.
"One said 'Yes,' " Carl told the station, describing the messages. "Then she sent another text that said, 'My phone's low. The battery's down, and I'll call you whenever I get a signal.' "
Another text said she was out drinking with friends. But Beverly doesn't drink, her husband said.
"We just want our mom back, and my wife of 35 years...I need her," he told the station.
Lewis, who has a criminal record in Arkansas, Kansas and Utah, was named as a person of interest following a Sunday morning car accident in which he sustained injuries, according to Fox 16. The suspect reportedly lost control of his vehicle and struck a concrete culvert.
Lewis sustained head and neck injuries and was treated at a hospital in Little Rock. However, he was not detained because the warrant was not yet issued, the station reported. The former convict has several felony charges in Arkansas for theft of property and is on parole until 2017.
