With two new albums dropping tomorrow, the solo "Art Official Age" and "Plectrumelectrum" with his band 3rdEyeGirl, Prince is primed to become a pop culture phenomenon once again. It would be hard top what he did in 1984 with both the "Purple Rain" film and soundtrack topping the charts, but that doesn't stop the 56-year-old maestro from trying.
Rolling Stone is reporting that the release party for the new albums will livestream tonight at 9:30 p.m. CST via the Live Nation Channel on Yahoo! The special event will be broadcast from inside his famed Paisley Park Studios in Minnesota. It will feature his 3rdEyeGirl group, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at the studio. The party will also be streaming on Yahoo! Screen Live and on the Yahoo! Screen app as well.
Prince is billing the former record, which he produced, arranged, composed and performed with singer-songwriter Joshua Welton, as "classic Prince," while calling the latter both a "classic band album" and "an electrifying funk-rock statement."
When Prince's label announced the albums in August, a press release promised "a series of very special events" to take place globally, though no other events have been announced.
Sadly, the song, "Fallinlove2nite," which is a duet with actress and singer Zooey Deschanel and premiered on her TV show "The New Girl" last February, does not appear on either album.
