Fantasy Football: Three Waiver Wire Pickups to Make Right Now

The waiver wire is home to an abundance of cost-free talent. In some instances, a waiver wire pickup can swing the outcome of a league. In others, it can provide much-needed depth during an injury. Either way, the waiver wire is a valuable tool for every fantasy football owner.

Here are three pickups that you need to make right now:

Matt Asiata

The fact that he is still not owned in over 30% of ESPN leagues is mind-boggling. Sure, after two lackluster performances in weeks two and three, you might have given up on Asiata. But, after his three touchdown, 78-yard performance on Sunday, he needs to be on a roster in all leagues. What Asiata lacks in raw talent, he makes up for in opportunity. In fantasy football, opportunity is nearly as valuable. Asiata is averaging 15 carries a game in Adrian Peterson's absence. Double-digit rushing attempts can be hard to come by. While it may not always be pretty, Asiata will get his shot until the Peterson case is resolved.

Devin Hester

His big night against Tampa Bay was extravagant, but not a fluke. Hester has proven that he still has big play ability from all over the field. Between return duties, running routes and taking handoffs, Hester has had plenty of chances to go the distance. He's had three games with at least nine fantasy points and two double-digit performances in the last two weeks. You could do a lot worse than Hester as a bye week fill-in.

Teddy Bridgewater

Yes, the ankle sprain isn't exactly the best of news for the rookie quarterback's fantasy prospects. But man, did Bridgewater look impressive against the Atlanta Falcons. Nineteen of 30 for 317 yards and five carries for 27 yards and a rushing touchdown - that's a strong stat line no matter who you are. With a weapon like Cordarrelle Patterson and some strong mobility, Bridgewater could be in line for some serious fantasy production. You could do much worse at the QB2 spot than a rookie with a high ceiling.
