Skydiver and Instructor Die After Hitting Shed

A skydiver instructor and his student jumped to their deaths after their parachute wasn't working Sunday evening.

Andrew Munson, of Nantucket, and his instructor Eldon Burrier, of Lynnwood, appeared to be having problems with their parachute after they jumped from the plane at Skydive Barnstable in Massachusetts. The men crashed into a shed on a private property near the airport they left from, The Associated Press reports.

Witnesses noticed the pair descending from the air particularly fast and authorities were notified.

After Munson and Burrier landed in homeowner John Theriault's backyard he aided the men while his wife called 911, says AP.

"We responded to the scene and we observed two people - the instructor and the student - laying on the ground beside the garage," Barnstable Police Sgt. Ben Baxter tells CBS Boston. "It appears they did hit the garage."

Both men were rushed to Cape Cod Hospital when authorities arrived, but neither survived.

It's still unclear if the deaths were a result of the equipment malfunction. Another witness told CBS the parachute looked deployed when she saw the skydivers in the air.

"As we find out more we'll be able to make a statement but until then we ask you to respect our privacy," Skydive Barnstable said in an email to the Boston Globe. "Our hearts go out to all family members of everyone involved."

The deaths are still under investigation by the Federal Aviation Association and the district attorney's office.
