New England (2-1) bounced back from their season-opening loss at Miami with two straight wins. Those wins, though, came against two subpar teams - the Minnesota Vikings and the Oakland Raiders - that both lacked on defense, yet were both able to keep quarterback Tom Brady to less than 300 passing yards.
"We can do just really pretty much everything better offensively," said Patriots coach Bill Belichick, via ESPN. "Everything. Blocking, throwing, catching, running, run reads, routes, distribution, you name it."
Belichick, though, still hasn't helped the offense with any personnel moves. After failing to bring in a big-name receiver during the offseason, Belichick chose to trade long-time offensive line stalwart Logan Mankins. The result has been seven sacks and even less time for Brady to find open receivers.
"We've got some new players. We've got different things that are happening," Brady said. "We're all trying to get used to one another and used to the things we're doing."
Kansas City, meanwhile, is 1-2 after dropping the first two games of the season. The Chiefs did show life last week against the Miami Dolphins, whom the team handed a 34-15 loss despite quarterback Alex Smith being sacked five times.
The five sacks make it 11 for the season, something for which Chiefs coach Andy Reid accepted the blame.
"Some of that, especially early, that was my responsibility," he said. "We're in long-yardage situations, taking seven-step drops. I have to be a little smarter with the play call. And then the other ones, we have to make sure we block the right guys and do the right things."
