Florida Man Guilty Of First-Degree Murder In Loud Music Trial

Prosecutors agree on the first-degree murder retrial of a white Florida man who fatally shot a black teenager after an argument over loud music outside a convenience store, according to Reuters.

State Attorney Angela Corey on Monday ended her case against 47-year-old Michael Dunn by interviewing the medical examiner, who discussed bullet wounds found on the victim's body, Reuters reported.

The trajectory of the bullets that killed an unarmed teen in a gas station dispute over loud rap music indicates that the victim could not have been in an aggressive pose, a forensic expert testified on Monday in a racially charged north Florida murder trial, according to Reuters.

Prosecutors say Dunn killed 17-year-old Jordan Davis, of Marietta, Georgia, by firing 10 times into an SUV occupied by four teens in November 2012, Reuters reported.

Former Duval County forensic pathologist Stacey Simon, who performed Davis' autopsy, testified that the bullets hit him as he was leaning away from the gunfire, according to Reuters.

Simon said the first bullet was fatal, entering Davis' body on the right side, and went through his body on a sharp diagonal passing through his liver, lungs and heart and lodging near his left armpit, Reuters reported.

Dunn's lawyers say he acted in self-defense because of a "perceived threat" that his life was in danger, alleging that Davis was getting out of the car in attack mode when the shots were fired, Reuters reported.

A previous jury found Dunn guilty of attempted second-degree murder for firing the shots, but deadlocked on first-degree murder, according to Reuters. Dunn faces at least 60 years in prison for the convictions.

The defense will now present its case to the jury, with Dunn expected to testify, Reuters reported. Sentencing has been postponed until after his retrial.
