NFL News: Lions Tight End Injured While Training Puppy

Detroit Lions tight end Joseph Fauria has been dealing with a sprained ankle recently, and the source of the injury just might make you smile.

Fauria revealed that he stumbled over some steps while chasing his 3-month-old Pomeranian/Husky mix, Lil' Rufio, at his apartment Wednesday night, reports ESPN. While we wish him a speedy recovery, we must admit that this is just about the most un-football way to injure yourself.

"He was about to pee and I was like, 'Come here you little ... nugget,'" Fauria said Monday. "And I was chasing him downstairs. I wasn't running but I was chasing him downstairs and I just misstepped and I reached with my left foot and I just didn't end up well."

Detroit fans may be upset that one of their pass catchers wasn't more careful, but they should get over it once they see the little pooch.

Lil' Rufio, who sports his own Instagram account, commented on the matter as well, though no one quite knows who translated. "I dunno Dad, I just don't get why you get to potty inside and I don't."

The second-year pro dismissed rumors that he had injured his ankle playing volleyball or while durnk at a bar. Fauria admitted to warming up with friends playing volleyball, but that the injury occurred later.

"I heard footgolf, basketball, lewd activities as well," Fauria said. "I'm no stranger to rumors. I did get suspended from a school and I know those rumors were around, too. I'm no stranger to it, but I was there supporting my friends and it happened two hours after."

"No," Fauria said in response to the bar rumors. "I don't know if they took my blood or toxicology report or whatever (at the hospital), but I'm fine. I was pretty sober, sadly. It wouldn't have hurt as much if I drank."

Fauria declined to share a timetable for his return. He has three catches for 49 yards this season. For the sake of his health, we hope his dog is house-broken soon.
