Marvel's 'Agent Carter': Dominic Cooper Confirmed as Howard Stark

Marvel has confirmed that British thespian Dominic Cooper will reprise his role as Howard Stark for the studio's upcoming TV show "Agent Carter," according to ComicBookMovie.com. Cooper first played the role in "Captain America: The First Avenger" before returning for the "Agent Carter" Marvel One-Shot that led to the creation of Peggy Carter's own TV show.

While most Marvel fans won't be surprised to see Cooper's name announced on the cast list, it will nonetheless be something of a relief. Purists have been petitioning to get as much of the cast from "The First Avenger" transferred to the "Agent Carter" TV show ever since it was announced earlier this year.

But with Howard Stark being a founding member of S.H.I.E.L.D., plot descriptions and simple logic suggested that Tony Stark's father would feature significantly in the "Agent Carter" show, and Cooper was selected as the natural choice to play him.

"Agent Carter" will be coming to a TV near you in January 2015 and will star, among others, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter and James D'Arcy as Edwin Jarvis. The official description of the show is as follows:

"'Marvel's Agent Carter,' starring 'Captain America's' Hayley Atwell, follows the story of Peggy Carter. It's 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life...Steve Rogers. Inspired by the feature films 'Captain America: The First Avenger' and 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier,' along with the short 'Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter.'"
