A 5-year-old boy is recovering after his dad accidentally ran him over while mowing the lawn on Sunday.
The boy's father was backing up the lawnmower at their Georgia home when his son walked behind him, Tim Cavender, the Cherokee County Fire Department's spokesman, told Fox.
The boy was knocked down by the mower and suffered injuries to his legs, fingers, toes and one arm. Luckily, the machinery missed all of his major arteries.
The child was immediately taken by ambulance to Dwight Terry Park before being flown to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston to be treated for his injuries, Atlantic Journal-Constitution reported.
Cavender told Fox the incident appeared to be an accident - although police are still investigating - but they decided not to charge the father at this time.
"I'm sure the dad is having a difficult time at this time, and you probably want to keep him in your thoughts and prayers because, this is hard to go through something like this," the spokesman says.
Cavender reminded parents to be cognizant of their surroundings while working in the yard.
"It just takes something real quick like this to cause an accident," he warned.
