U.S. and Mexico authorities have rescued an Austin, Texas, girl in Mexico, 12 years after she went missing, according to Fox 7 in Austin.
Greg Allen lost his little girl Sabrina Allen on April 21, 2002. His estranged wife Dara Llorens allegedly kidnapped the 5-year-old and relocated her to Mexico City. The non-custodial mother had supervised visitation with Sabrina for six months, but immediately fled when the court granted her unsupervised visitation.
Dara and the girl were located in Mexico City in 2003 but escaped capture. They went by the names Blanca Aurora Fabian Uribe and Adriana Fabian Uribe at the time, but used numerous aliases during their time on the run. Dara also changed Sabrina's appearance several times by cutting and changing the color of her hair.
The FBI, U.S. Marshalls and Mexican authorities all took part in a secret mission on Sept. 30 to rescue the now 17-year-old girl from Estafeta, Tlaxcala, a town located southeast of Mexico City, according to USA Today. The rescue mission left an officer with the Mexican Federal Police injured, but his injuries were considered non-life-threatening and he was expected to make a full recovery.
"I am overjoyed that Sabrina has been found alive and is safe," Greg Allen said in a statement. "Our entire family would like to thank the investigators that made this happen... They never gave up. We look forward to being reunited very soon."
Dara and Sabrina returned to the U.S. on a commercial flight and arrived in Houston on Tuesday night. Authorities have Sabrina at an undisclosed location to receive medical treatment and emotional care to help her transition back to life with her father.
Dara was booked into Travis County Jail in lieu of $300,000 bond, according to KXAN. Her arrest warrent charges that she "intentionallay and knowingly abducted the child be restraining her so as to interfere substantially with her liberty by moving her from one place to another," according to USA Today.
Greg Allen still lives in Austin with his new wife Mariana and their three children, according to his Facebook page.
