Harry Potter Collection: World's Largest Owned By Mexican Man

He may be only a "muggle," but one Mexico City man is in Hogwarts Heaven after his "Harry Potter" memorabilia collection was named the world's largest, Fox News Latino reported on Tuesday.

Menahem Asher Silva Vargas, 37, has spent the last 15 years collecting everything related to British author J.K. Rowling's supernatural young-adult novels, which grew to an empire and spawned eight blockbuster films.

His collection fills two rooms and boasts everything from toy figurines and magic wands to Gryffindor scarves and replica Quidditch brooms.

Guinness World Records officially recognized it Monday as the world's number one collection at 3,097 pieces. He greatly eclipsed the record of 807.

Silva Vargas said he didn't set out to amass such a broad collection, but soon it was like being under a spell.

He jokingly called his obsession both a blessing and a curse: "My salary, my bonuses ... it all ended up here."

Hogsmeade Station Gift Shop, which sells the largest selection of Harry Potter classic and limited edition items anywhere in the world, currently has 1,074 different pieces for sale. That inventory would have to be tripled to beat out Silva Vargas' collection, according to Muggle Net.
