Tracy Morgan is still recovering at home following a fatal car accident in June that killed one person. His lawyer, Benedict Morelli, recently spoke to Page Six and said Morgan's career could be in jeopardy because the comedian suffered a "debilitating brain injury."
Morgan, 45, is still undergoing rehab for speech, cognitive, vocational and physical therapies, his lawyer said. According to Page Six, when asked if Morgan will be able to perform again, his lawyer said, "The jury's still out."
"The doctors don't know the answer," Morelli added. "I don't know the answer."
On June 7, Morgan and his entourage were leaving a Delaware comedy show when a Walmart tractor trailer struck the back of his limo bus causing it to spin out of control. The crash, which happened on the New Jersey Turnpike, killed Morgan's friend and fellow comedian James "Jimmy Mack" McNair and left Morgan and two other friends with critical injuries.
The "30 Rock" star spent several weeks in a New Jersey hospital before being moved to a rehab center and then transported to his home to finish recovery. Walmart responded on Monday to a lawsuit filed by Morgan and the two other victims, saying that they caused their own injuries for allegedly not wearing seatbelts.
"These people are despicable," Morelli told Page Six about Walmart's claims. "They knew that they changed these people's lives forever and killed somebody."
Morelli also represents the other two victims injured in the crash, Jeffrey Millea and Ardie Fuqua.
"They're good blame shifters," he added. "I guess that's how they make $783 billion a year, shifting the blame."
Morgan also responded to Walmart, saying he "can't believe Walmart is blaming me for an accident that they caused. My friends and I were doing nothing wrong. I want to thank my fans for sticking with me during this difficult time."
