Sexual Abuse: Sisters Suing Jehovah's Witness Congregation Years Later

Two sisters who were allegedly sexually abused at a Jehovah's Witness congregation multiple times as children are suing years later.

Miranda Lewis, now 23, and Anessa Lewis, now 27, both claim Norton True touched them sexually multiple times on separate occasions when they were under 5 years old. He was a ministerial servant at the time, but it's unclear if he is still part of the church, according to Vermont Public Radio.

Their mother, Marina Mauvoleon-Folsom, reported the sexual attacks on her daughters to the congregation at the time of the incidents.

"They wanted me to be quiet about what had happened. Because they were not willing to do anything in the congregation, they allowed us to move to another congregation," Folsom tells VPR. "It was very strange. It was a very strange thing. There was almost no support for myself or my family, or any understanding at all."

Folsom later reported the incident to the police and worked with local child protection agencies, but according to VPR, no charges were ever filed.

Now adults, the girls are bringing new light to the sexual abuse to prevent it from happening to other children in the future.

"I hope it helps make them pay attention," Annessa tells VPR. "I mean, I guess that's the best I can say. I just hope it makes them pay attention and just think about it a little bit more than they have in the past."
