An enormous sinkhole swallowed most of the backyard and pool of a residence in Winter Park, Fla., just one day after the residents hosted a pool party, according to the Yahoo.
When Suzanne Blumenaur returned home after going out to dinner she noticed a very troubling thing; her backyard appeared to be missing.
"I think that I must be dreaming," Blumenaur said in an interview with WESH-TV. "I didn't know what to think and then I realized there was a hole in the ground."
The cause of the sinkhole is yet to be determined. A geologist will be inspecting the hole on Tuesday along with workers from the building department, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
Jim Frank, a new resident to the Winter Park neighborhood, was concerned about the hole expanding.
"You wonder how big it will eventually get," Frank told the Sentinel.
Residents appear to be blaming a local construction project for the sinkhole. Neighbors told the Sentinel that when the machines are running at the project at nearby Lake Killarney they can feel their houses vibrating.
Sinkholes are relatively common in central Florida. According to the Sentinel a massive sinkhole opened up in Winter Park in 1981 and swallowed up a woman's home and 5 Porsches from an auto dealership. It also made the deep end of the city's swimming pool much, much deeper.
Blumenaur was lucky that she was out to dinner when the ground gave way, a man in nearby Seffner, Fla., was killed by a sinkhole in March.
Jeff Bush, 37, was asleep in his bed when a 60 foot sinkhole opened up beneath him, according to the New York Daily News. Bush's brother, Jeremy, attempted to save his brother but was unable to. Jeremy described the scene to MyFox Tampa.
"All I see is this big hole. All I see is the top of his bed," Bush said. "I didn't see anything else so I jumped in the hole and tried to getting him out. The floor was still giving in and the dirt was still going down, but I didn't care."
A contractor took video of the hole by placing a camera on a pole and sticking it down the hole shortly before the house was demolished. It can be seen here.
