Eminem's collaboration with clothing retailer Carhartt seems to have been a smart business move. The limited edition hoodies sold out in an hour, netting roughly $40,000 for his youth charity, Click On Detroit reported on Thursday.
Just 500 of the $79 zip-front gray hoodies with Eminem's logo on it were made to be available on Eminem.com at 2 p.m. After being on sale for only an hour, the online store said it was sold out, MLive reported.
The back of the sweatshirt displays an anvil graphic with the area code "313" in the center, encircled by the words "Detroit, Michigan. 1889. 1999."
The Marshall Mathers Foundation donates money to organizations that advocate for at-risk youth in Michigan and around the country. Carhartt, a Michigan-based company, wanted to partner with Eminem's foundation to support children in Detroit and throughout the state, according to Detroit Free Press.
Eminem, who grew up in Detroit and Warren, gives back frequently to his old stomping grounds. But it seems he prefers to keep a low profile when doing so.
Last year, the rapper was the secret donor of at least $200,000 to a Detroit-based children's charity.
Eminem also had an eBay auction in January that raised over $24,000 for Focus: HOPE, a Metro Detroit not-for-profit that provides food and other basic services to seniors and families.
"We have been a part of the Detroit area for 125 years and are proud to partner with organizations like The Marshall Mathers Foundation that shine a positive light on the city," Tony Ambroza, senior vice president of marketing for Carhartt, said in a statement.
