Butler Bulldogs basketball coach Brandon Miller is taking a leave of absence for an indefinite time due to medical reasons, ESPN reports.
Athletic Director Barry Collier announced the move Thursday. He told ESPN in a text message that he is not able to comment on a timetable for Miller's return or any other aspect of his leave.
"Brandon Miller has requested a leave of absence for medical reasons, which the University has granted," Collier said in a statement. "We are not in a position to further elaborate and we ask that everyone respect Brandon's privacy."
Butler announced that Chris Holtmann will be the interim head coach in Miller's absence. Holtmann led Gardner-Webb to a school record 21 wins prior to joining the Bulldogs' staff last season.
Roosevelt Jones, who was injured last year, returns to the lineup. In addition, the Bulldogs will get two of their top three scorers from last season in Kellen Dunham (16.4 PPG) and Kameron Woods (7.5). The team went 14-17 last season with a 4-14 record in the Big East Conference.
Butler will open the regular season on Nov. 15 against Maine.
