Developer NetherRealm has revealed Quan Chi as the latest character added to the "Mortal Kombat X" roster, according to an article at IGN.
For those out there who are unfamiliar with the "Mortal Kombat" lore, Quan Chi is a sorcerer who uses spells to create standard fireballs and other projectiles that lure players in. His powers can also be used to summon beasts, but perhaps the most inventive, and deadly (some would go as far to say cheap), application of his magical fighting skills is the use of portals to strike at opponents from distance. And, as one would expect in a "Mortal Kombat" game, his finishing/fatality move is satisfyingly over-the-top and bone crunchingly brutal.
The character first appeared as a boss on the Nintendo 64 game "Mythologies: Sub-Zero," and was later introduced as a playable character in "Mortal Kombat 4."
In the video below, the project's executive producer Shaun Himmerick offers an outline of Quan Chi's powers.
"Mortal Kombat X's" release date is marked for April 14, 2015, with it set to ship on Xbox One, PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
Along with series incumbents Scorpion and Sub-Zero, a host of new characters have been announced for the game, such as D'Vorah, Ferra/Torr, Cassie Cage and Kotal Kahn. Familiar faces, such as Raiden and Kano, are also returning to the series. Former boss Goro will only be a playable character for those who pre-order.
