While both the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox missed out on the playoffs this year, passionate diehard fans such as Hollywood star Ben Affleck are still keeping the rivalry going.
Affleck refused to wear a Yankees hat during the filming of his new movie "Gone Girl", the New York Times reports. Affleck is a well-known Red Sox fan who evidently takes his baseball very seriously.
At one point during the movie, Affleck's character wears a baseball hat to help blend in while in public. Director David Fincher pushed Affleck to wear a Yankees hat for the particular scene, but Affleck had some strong objections.
"I said, 'David, I love you, I would do anything for you,'" Affleck said. "'But I will not wear a Yankees hat. I just can't. I can't wear it because it's going to become a thing, David. I will never hear the end of it. I can't do it.' And I couldn't put it on my head.
"It was an uprising; it was a coup, I rioted," Affleck added, "It was a one-man riot against the Yankees."
In the end, a compromise was reached: Affleck wore a New York Mets hat instead, according to the New York Times.
Affleck's family moved to Massachusetts when he was two. He attends several Red Sox games every season.
