Groupon introduced a new app Thursday for shoppers looking to save some money for the holiday season.
With the app, called Snap by Groupon, shoppers can get paid to buy grocery items that are featured throughout the week, such as bread, milk, diapers, cleaning supplies and household products, and introductory promoted products like Country Crock butter, Hidden Valley salad dressing, and Huggies diapers and wipes, according to PC Magazine.
"Snap is the latest way that we're helping people discover new brands and save money on the things they buy every day," said Sean Smyth, vice president and general manager of Snap by Groupon. "We're using the power of smartphones to make couponing easier and more convenient while paying people to shop."
Snap users can get discounts by taking a photo of their receipt after they've finished buying their groceries, eliminating the need to clip coupons and bring them to the store, The New York Times reported. Once users have saved $20 or more, Groupon will send them a check in the mail.
The unveiling of the new app is the website's latest move in finding other ways to make money besides offering daily deals, which include coupons at JC Penny and other partner retailers, vacation travel packages and clearance sales.
Users can also build their own shopping lists on the app as a way to save money and get the products they need, PC Magazine reported. Users can also check the week's offers online, which gives them an extra way to upload receipts and keep up with their shopping lists.
"Snap builds on Groupon's enormous mobile footprint of almost 92 million global app downloads, while allowing brands to connect with shoppers in a fare more personal and targeted way," Smyth said.
Snap is available for shoppers in the U.S. and Canada, who can now download the app for free in the iTunes App Store and Google Play Store, PC Magazine reported.
Shoppers may also be happy to hear that Groupon is offering users who submit a grocery receipt through Nov. 11th a chance to enter a sweepstakes to win free products for a whole family for a year, which is valued at $13,000 worth of groceries. Groupon will end the raffle at 11:59 p.m. CDT on Nov. 11th and announce the winner on Nov. 20th.
