Two Louisiana teachers were taken into custody following the revelation that they were involved in a threesome with one their teen students.
The 16-year-old student with whom the teachers slept was bragging about it to his peers, according to Destrehan High School officials. The teachers, Rachel Respess, 24, and Shelley Dufresne, 32, were suspended without pay following the accusations, reports The New Orleans Times-Picayune.
The report states that the group sex allegedly took place at Respess' apartment Sept. 12 after a Friday night high school football game.
Dufresne is also accused of sleeping with the student at her home on a separate occasion. Police said the student told them the sex was consensual. However, Kenner Police Chief Michael Glaser said that given the student's age he was not old enough to legally consent.
The police chief said that because it was two women having sex with an underage male, the community really wasn't taking the matter too seriously. "If this was two male teachers and a female student, the community would be outraged," Glaser said. "It should have the same outrage," he added, reports Yahoo! News.
The teachers were charged with felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile, indecent behavior with a juvenile and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. Dufresne is already in custody on a one count charge of carnal knowledge of a juvenile "stemming from the alleged encounter at her home." Both women were released from jail on Thursday after posting their $7,000 bonds.
If convicted, the teachers might get a maximum sentence of 17 years in prison and the requirement to register as sex offenders.
