Tom Brady hasn't looked like Tom Brady so far this season. He struggled to move the offense last Monday in New England's 41-14 loss at Kansas City, prompting some to question whether age has finally caught up to the future Hall of Famer.
"Like (coach Bill Belichick) always says, ignore the noise and just stay focused on what we need to do, stay focused on what our process is to try to make the improvement," Brady said, via ESPN. "We've got an important job to do this week and the clock is ticking."
Brady is 37 years old, but the real issue for the Patriots seems to be the lack of talent around him. Belichick traded Pro Bowl offensive lineman Logan Mankins before the season started, and he failed to bring in reliable help at the wide receiver position.
Things won't get easier on Sunday against the undefeated Bengals, whom Belichick called a "complete team."
"They have a lot of good players. They're well-coached. They're tough, they're physical, they're explosive," Belichick said. "It's been a while since I've seen a team that's as complete as they are."
The Bengals' latest win came last week in a 33-7 rout of the Tennessee Titans.
"Over the last couple of years we've been winning games like that, the ones we're supposed to win," said Bengals left tackle Andre Whitworth. "It's more the big games we haven't up as well. We started our year (against Baltimore) and we did show. That was taking another step and we have to be ready to take another step in New England."
