There's reportedly tension between New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and the coaching staff. ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported the tension could lead Brady to consider finishing his career with another team.
Shortly before New England's blowout win Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals, Mortensen reported sources as saying there was tension between Brady and the coaching staff, largely because of the questionable personnel moves made.
"Tension exists between Tom Brady and the New England Patriots' coaching staff, and multiple sources told ESPN that they believe it could influence whether the quarterback finishes his career with the team that he has led to three Super Bowls," Mortensen wrote. "... Much of Brady's frustration relates to the downsizing of the Patriots offense that stems from questionable personnel decisions and the retirement of longtime line coach Dante Scarnecchia after the 2013 season, the sources told ESPN.
"With Pro Bowl guard Logan Mankins being traded before the season, the line now coached by Dave DeGuglielmo is so inexperienced that Brady's input into game plans, personnel groups and pre-snap adjustments has significantly diminished."
On top of having an inexperienced offensive line, Brady remains without a reliable big-name receiver. Bringing in Danny Amendola as a replacement for Wes Welker hasn't worked and Rob Gronkowski, who's dealt with injuries the last two seasons, is still returning to form.
Brady's contract doesn't expire until 2018, but that doesn't preclude him from being traded. Patriots coach Bill Belichick has a history of trading away star players, and one of Mortensen's sources said "nobody is untouchable."
