SUV Rams into Shop, Kills 1 Leaves 5 Injured

One person was dead and five others were injured after an SUV rammed into a doughnut shop in Southern California.

According to the surveillance video, a Jeep Liberty drove through Jolly Donuts in the Canoga Park area of Los Angeles just before 10 p.m. Saturday. The man killed in the incident was aged between 35 and 45.

Kristen Chang, 42, a native of Los Angeles has been identified as the driver of the SUV. Police said she was taken to a hospital and will be evaluated to see if drugs or alcohol were involved, reports abc30.

It was not immediately disclosed whether the officials would file any charges against Chang.

"We have a citizen who drove through the doughnut shop, completely through it," Delgado said. "She's in the parking lot and next thing you know, she's driving through (the shop)," said Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. David Delgado, of Valley Traffic Division, reports Los Angeles Daily News.

Sivlai Chung, the owner of Jolly Donuts told KTLA Channel 5 that the person who was killed in the shop was a homeless man. "He comes to the shop every night to charge his phone cause he's homeless," Sivlai Chung said. "He has a cup of coffee and he sits there until his phone's charged up and he leaves on his way," Chung said.

According to Bruce Bowman, a survivor of the incident, before he picked out a seat in the shop that night, he contemplated whether it would be safe. "I wonder now why I even had a safety consideration about sitting there," he said. "It seems too impossible."
